The recently launched Redmi Note 6 Pro has already become a successful product for Xiaomi. In the few flash sales that have occurred since its launch, Xiaomi has already sold more than 6 lakh units. Despite being an incremental upgrade over the Redmi Note 5 pro, the device has attracted a lot of consumers thanks to its amazing value for money and great cameras in its segment.

Redmi Note 6 Pro vs RealMe U1 - Specifications

Xiaomi is a popular brand in the sub Rs 15,000/- price range in the Indian Smartphone market. Its  Redmi Note series is the most popular smartphone in this range and the Redmi Note 6 Pro is no exception.

However, in recent times, the competition from competing brands has increased manifold. Brands like Asus, Nokia and RealMe are launching amazing value for money smartphones to counter Xiaomi in India.

RealMe U1 is one such device that aims to defeat the Redmi Note 6 Pro at its own game.

Let's see how both of them compare specification wise.


The Redmi Note 6 Pro sports a 6.26 inch FullHD+ IPS LCD Display.

The RealMe sports a slightly bigger 6.3-inch FullHD+ LTPS IPS LCD display.

Both have almost similar sized screens which are of very good quality. So this category is a tie between the two.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro sports a bigger battery of 4000 mAh. Realme U1 on the other hand only has a battery capacity of 3500 mAh.

Both smartphones should easily last 1 & a half days on moderate usage but due to extra 500 mAh, Redmi takes this round.

Redmi sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 which was first found in the Redmi Note 5 Pro. It is a powerful yet efficient processor and Xiaomi has stuck to it for the Note 6 as well.

Realme, on the other hand, has utilized the Mediatek P70 processor, which itself is the successor of the powerful Mediatek P60 found in Realme 1.

Between the two, Mediatek is definitely more powerful CPU in terms of raw performance and geekbench numbers. So the Realme smartphone is definitely a better option for those looking for raw performance. Its a win for the RealMe.

Base Storage & RAM

The Redmi Note 6 comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage in the base model that is available.

The Realme U1 comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage in its base model.

So in terms of RAM and storage, The redmi note offers much more value. This round goes to Xiaomi.

Dual SIM

Both smartphones support dual sim with Dual 4G. So this round is a tie.

SD Card Support

Both smartphones support memory expansion through SD card.

However, only Realme has a dedicated SD card slot along with 2 slots for the 2 SIMs.

So for the presence of a dedicated SD card slot, this round goes to Realme.

Redmi Note 6 sports newer Bluetooth 5.0 which has better range, connectivity and data transfer speeds.

Realme U1 only has bluetooth 4.2 which is the older version.

So this round goes to Redmi.

OTG Support

Both smartphones support USB OTG. This means that you can easily connect pen drives or external hard disks to access and store files using these smartphones.

So this round is a tie!

Neither of the devices sports a USB-C port. Both have older micro-USB ports for charging and data syncing.

Both smartphones ship with a 10 W fast charger. However, Redmi Note 6 also supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0

So, with a proper QC 3.0 charger, one can achieve even faster-charging speeds.

Rear Camera

Redmi has a dual camera setup of 12 MP + 5 MP sensors. The main sensor of 12 MP has large pixels and a bright lens. It supports, portrait shots, portrait lighting etc. It is one of the best smartphone cameras that one can buy under Rs 20,000/-

Realme U1 has a decent camera for its Price. It has a 13 MP + 2 MP dual camera setup. Its performance is okay.

Redmi Note 6 Pro clearly has an advantage when it comes to the rear camera. Even video is better on the Redmi device.

This round goes to Xiaomi.

Front Camera

The Redmi device has a dual camera set up on the front as well with a 20 MP + 2 MP setup. It supports portrait mode and a good selfie camera.

Realme, on the other hand, has a 25 MP selfie camera which is one of the best in its class. 

The redmi selfie camera is good but Realme is much better.

Both devices support face unlock as a means to unlock the smartphone.

In addition, they also have a fingerprint sensor at the back for additional security options.

Hence this round is a tie.

Redmi Note 6 Pro comes in 4 different colour options which include the amazing RED.

Realme U1 comes in 3 amazing colour options.

In terms of choice, Redmi has more options and hence has the edge.

Android & Operating System

Both devices currently run on custom ROMs based on Android 8 Oreo.

However, in terms of stability, performance and updates, Xiaomi's MIUI is far ahead than RealMe's ColorOS.

Redmi is a sure shot winner in this category.

IP Rating

None of these devices supports any form of IP Rating.

Design & Built

Redmi Note 6 has a metal body with plastic top and bottom. Its a design Xiaomi has repeated in a lot of its redmi phones now and it has started to look stale. The phone overall, however, is s=well built.

RealMe U1, on the other hand, has a beautiful glass sandwich design which looks great and appealing. It is well built and durable.

Both screens have notches but Realme has a more elegant and better-looking water drop notch design.

This round definitely goes to Realme.

Extra Features

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has headphone jack, an IR blaster and a new feature called WiFi Pass-through which allows the device to share the WiFi, it is connected to, to multiple other devices.

RealMe U1 also has a headphone jack and also supports FM Radio feature which is great for times when there is no internet.

I think both devices have there fair share of extra features and this round can be considered a tie.

Starting Price

The starting price of the redmi note 6 is Rs 13,999/- or almost Rs 14,000/-

The starting price of RealMe U1, on the other hand, is less than redmi at Rs 11,999/- or Rs 12,000/-

A difference of Rs 2,000 is definitely considerable in this price range and hence this round definitely goes to Realme.

It is quite clear from the final scores that Redmi Note 6 Pro is the winner in this Specs comparison. 

However, the Realme U1 is no slouch. It lost by only a few points.

In fact, the points it lost are very trivial and may not be a concern for many. The lack of latest Bluetooth version or availability of just 3 colours is an almost negligible issue.

For the most part, RealMe U1 gives a tough competition to Xiaomi's Redmi Note 6 pro.

Final Thoughts

Personally, I feel both devices are really amazing devices at the prices that they are offered and you cannot go wrong with either.

If better Rear Camera, more RAM & Internal storage, and Better software experience are your priorities, then Redmi Note 6 Pro should be your smartphone of choice.

If Design, Selfie Camera and cheaper price are your priorities, then Go for the RealMe U1.
