Honor 8C vs RealMe U1 - Specifications

Honor has over the past few years made a name for itself in the budget smartphone market in India. Well built value for money smartphones, priced aggressively, have allowed the company to become one of the best selling brands in this segment.

RealMe is a sub-brand of OPPO and aims to create a new brand which offers value for money devices to people at reasonable prices.

Honor 8C & RealMe U1 are the latest releases from both the brands in the budget smartphone segment. Let's see how both of them compare specification wise.

Display

The Honor 8C sports a 6.26 inch 720p HD+ IPS LCD Display.

The RealMe sports a slightly bigger 6.3-inch FullHD+ LTPS IPS LCD display.
Quite clearly, the RealMe U1 has a better display since it is slightly bigger and is also FullHD resolution as opposed to 720p in Honor 8C.

This round is won by RealMe.

Honor 8C : 0
RealMe U1 : 1

Battery

The Honor 8C sports a huge battery of 4000 mAh capacity. Realme U1, on the other hand, has a lower battery capacity of 3500 mAh.

Both smartphones should easily last 1 & a half days on moderate usage but due to extra 500 mAh paired with lower resolution screen, the Honor 8C should deliver much better battery life. So Honor takes this round.

RealMe U1 : 1

Processor

Honor 8C sports the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 632. It is a decent upgrade and pretty powerful for any budget smartphone.

Realme, on the other hand, has utilized the Mediatek P70 processor, which itself is the successor of the powerful Mediatek P60 found in Realme 1.

Between the two, Mediatek is definitely more powerful CPU in terms of raw performance and geekbench numbers. So the Realme smartphone is definitely a better option for those looking for raw performance. Its a win for the RealMe.

RealMe U1 : 2

Base Storage & RAM

The Honor 8C comes with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage in the base model that is available.

The Realme U1 comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage in its base model.

Both offer the same storage in their base variants but Honor offers 1 GB more RAM, so this round goes to Honor.

Both smartphones support dual sim with Dual 4G. So this round is a tie.

Honor 8C : 3
RealMe U1 : 3

Both smartphones support memory expansion through SD card.

Both phones have a dedicated SD card slot along with 2 slots for the 2 SIMs.

So this round is also a tie.

Honor 8C : 4

Both smartphones have Bluetooth 4.2 which is the older version.

So this round is again a tie.

Honor 8C : 5
RealMe U1 : 5

OTG Support

Both smartphones support USB OTG. This means that you can easily connect pen drives or external hard disks to access and store files using these smartphones.

So this round is a tie!

Honor 8C : 6

USB-C support

Neither of the devices sports a USB-C port. Both have older micro-USB ports for charging and data syncing.

Honor 8C : 8
RealMe U1 : 8

Rear Camera

Both smartphones have a 13 MP + 2 MP dual sensor setup on the back. Both offer portrait shots feature.

However, when it comes to actual quality, the Realme U1 is definitely better than the Honor 8C. It has better sharpness, details and colors in its pictures.

This round goes to RealMe.

Honor 8C : 8
RealMe U1 : 9

Front Camera

The Honor device has a basic 8 MP camera on the front with a dedicated flash. It supports portrait selfies.

Realme, on the other hand, has a 25 MP selfie camera which is one of the best in its class.

The selfie camera in Realme is much better.

Honor 8C : 8
RealMe U1 : 10

Biometrics

Both devices support face unlock as a means to unlock the smartphone.

In addition, they also have a fingerprint sensor at the back for additional security options.

Hence this round is a tie.

Honor 8C : 9
RealMe U1 : 11

Realme U1 comes in 3 amazing colour options.

In terms of choice, RealMe has more options and hence has the edge.

Honor 8C : 9
RealMe U1 : 12

Android & Operating System

Both devices currently run on custom ROMs based on Android 8 Oreo.

However, in terms of stability, performance and updates, Honor's EMUI is much better than RealMe's ColorOS.

Honor 8C is a sure shot winner in this category.

Honor 8C : 10

RealMe U1 : 12

IP Rating

None of these devices supports any form of IP Rating.
Honor 8C : 11
RealMe U1 : 13

Design & Built

Honor 8C has a metal body design. It is the same look that almost all Honor smartphones sport these days.

RealMe U1, on the other hand, has a beautiful glass sandwich design which looks great and appealing. It is well built and durable.

Both screens have notches but Realme has a more elegant and better-looking water drop notch design.

This round definitely goes to Realme.

Honor 8C : 11
RealMe U1 : 14

Extra Features

Both smartphones have a headphone jack so that is a plus.

But RealMe U1 also supports FM Radio feature which is great for times when there is no internet.

So for the addition of FM radio, I think RealMe deserves a point in this round.

Honor 8C : 11
RealMe U1 : 15

Starting Price

Both smartphones have a starting price of Rs 11,999/- or Rs 12,000/-

So this round is a tie.

Honor 8C : 12
RealMe U1 : 16

It is quite clear from the final score that the RealMe U1 is the better device in terms of specs.

The Honor 8C is decent offering from Honor but for the same price, consumers have a better option in the form of Realme U1.

Final Thoughts

Personally, I feel that for the price in which both devices retail, RealMe U1 is a better buy. However, one thing to note here is that the Honor 8C does offer better software experience and also has a better battery life.

So if battery life and software experience is your priority, then Honor 8C should be your choice. If Design, camera and performance is your priority then go with RealMe U1.

What do you think?

Do you agree?
