OnePlus 6T has recently been launched in an event held in India. Featuring some minor upgrades, 6T follows the tradition of all the T upgrades by OnePlus every year. It also followed the OnePlus tradition to increase the prices marginally of the new device.

With its new prices, the OnePlus 6T is now a more direct competitor to the LG G7.

LG G7 is better value for money than OnePlus 6T!

That one line above sums it all up.

Now, if you are a OnePlus fan, hear me out before you start commenting in rage.

When I say that G7 is a better value for money, I do not mean that the OnePlus 6T is a bad smartphone. In fact, it's far from it.
It is one of the best smartphones one can buy. And definitely, the second best smartphone one can buy under Rs 40,000/- in India.

However, for just a couple of thousand Rs more, LG offers so much more with their device that it is hard to recommend OnePlus 6T over LG G7.

Let's compare the major features of both the smartphones.

Design

Both the smartphones feature a glass sandwich design with a metal frame. Both use a strong aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass 5 for added protection.

However, OnePlus is only splash resistant, whereas LG G7 is IP68 rated. Which means much higher protection from water and dust.

LG G7 also has a MIL-STD-810G rating. It means that it can withstand falls much better.

Screen

OnePlus 6T has a 6.4" OLED display with a notch whereas LG G7 has a 6.1" IPS LCD display with a notch.
But where LG beats OnePlus is that the LG display is of QHD resolution whereas OnePlus 6T has FullHD+ resolution screen.

The LG G7 screen also has higher brightness than OnePlus 6T and also support Dolby Vision and HDR10 technologies.

Processor

Both devices run on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with Adreno 630 GPU. OnePlus has more of a pure Android UI and is slightly faster than LG's UI, thanks to its faster animations.

But both the devices have a superfast performance with no lag whatsoever. They are pretty much equal when it comes to processing power under the hood.

RAM & Storage

Both devices have a base storage variant of 64 GB UFS2.1 flash storage. So both have equal base storage which runs at same speed.

OnePlus, however, has 6GB RAM in its base variant, which is 2GB more than LG. But in the day to day usage, it does not make any difference.

Where LG beats OnePlus is with the addition of an SD card slot. LG users can expand the storage using this whereas, with OnePlus 6T, you are stuck with what you have.

Audio

Both devices sport a single speaker. However, the OnePlus 6T speaker is not as good. LG G7 speaker is louder and also has BoomBox technology which uses the frame of the phone for a richer sound when the phone is placed on a hard surface.

LG G7 also has a headphone jack which OnePlus 6T lacks. And thanks to a dedicated QuadDAC present in LG G7, we get an amazing audio experience.

LG G7 also supports DTS surround sound tech for a better audio experience.

Camera

Both devices have a dual camera set up at the back. However, the LG G7 has one lens as a wide angle lens which is more versatile and useful.

The primary lens in LG G7 has an aperture of f/1.6 which is brighter than the OnePlus 6T. It is optically stabilized. Even the wide-angle lens has an aperture of f/1.9

Both smartphones can shoot good quality portrait shots.

LG G7 has a dedicated night mode which automatically enables when the light is low.

LG G7 also allows users full manual controls when shooting video and also shoots HDR10 compliant videos.

Extras

The LG G7 features a radio app which is very useful, something OnePlus 6T lacks.

The LG G7 also supports USB3.1 in its USB-C charging port. This allows the device to have faster data transfer speeds, support for quick charge etc.

The LG G7 also supports USB-C to HDMI. It means using a USB-C to HDMI cable, you can mirror your smartphone screen to any TV. OnePlus 6T lacks this feature.

Features where OnePlus 6T is better

OnePlus 6T does have a few features that make it a better smartphone.

  • It has a bigger 3700 mAh battery that gives it a much better battery life than LG G7.
  • It has an in-display fingerprint scanner which is a new technology.
  • It gets faster Android updates.
  • Slightly better camera performance, especially in low light.

Final Thoughts

Though OnePlus 6T has a few noteworthy tricks up its sleeves, it is still hard for it to beat the number of amazing features the LG G7 packs.

From HDR display to IP68 rating to Quad DAC to HDR video recording - The LG G7 offers just so much for the price.

If the OnePlus 6T had been priced at around Rs 30-32,000/- then recommending it would have been way easier, like it always has been for all OnePlus smartphones.

But with the ever-increasing prices of OnePlus devices, it will now face a tougher competition. As in this case, LG G7 is a better smartphone to buy than the OnePlus 6T.
