Till a few weeks back when ASUS launched its latest budget offering, the ASUS Zenfone max pro, everyone thought it was the best phone to get.

It was thought that the Redmi Note 5 competitor had finally arrived.

Priced at ₹10,000 Redmi Note series from Xiaomi has been the reigning king of the budget to the mid-range smartphone. However, with not a lot of hardware change this year, Xiaomi took a risk with the Redmi Note 5.

And the competition has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. If the ASUS Zenfone max pro priced at ₹11,000 was not enough to sway you away from Xiaomi, OPPO has launched a new smartphone range under the RealMe name.

With RealMe name, its clearly targeting the Redmi series of Xiaomi.

With the base variant of the RealMe 1 priced at ₹9000, OPPO looks to have a clear winner in their hands. Xiaomi, Honor and ASUS, all have a strong competition in the budget to the mid-range smartphone market.

Let's check out the Key Specifications.

My Thoughts

The OPPO RealMe 1 looks to be a solid device for the price.

  • As seen in the Specifications, it is powered by a Mediatek Helio P60 chipset. This is way powerful than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 found in the Redmi Note 5 and comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 found in ASUS Zenfone max pro.

  • The chipset is also built on the 12 nm process which should help its 3400 mAh battery last considerably well.

  • Though the Mali GPU may not be as powerful as the corresponding Adreno in the competition, its still a great performer for the price.

  • The design is awesome and eye-catching, unlike the stale and boring designs of the competition. It will be available in two awesome Colors.

  • It has a 6 inch full HD screen.

  • It has a custom skin based on Android Oreo which is a positive.

  • Its is dual sim phone with dedicated sd card slot. Both sim slots support 4G.

  • The cameras, with a dedicated AI chip look to be good for the price.

  • Dedicated AI chip supports face unlock as well.

Some Issues with RealMe 1

  • OPPO is very slow with updates. Hence whether Android P undate will be rolled out or not is a mystery.

  • There is not fingerprint scanner. Only face unlock.

  • Support for fast charging is also not mentioned.
