We have all seen the rise of the Chinese Smartphone company Oneplus. By launching flagship specifications and a great design at just half the cost of a branded flagship smartphone, OnePlus made a great entry to the smartphone market.

Xiaomi has completely lost the plot. Read more.

Over the course of the last couple of years, it has been launching pretty solid devices having top of the line specifications at lower than flagship prices.

Due to such aggressive pricing, people have loved the brand and sidelined a few weak links in their smartphones.

And now in 2018, OnePlus has launched the much awaited OnePlus 6. But is it really worth all the hype? I share my opinions here.

My Thoughts

Oneplus 6

As is clearly evident from the specifications, the latest OnePlus 6 once again offers flagship specifications.

Though this time the price is higher than before, as has been the case for the last couple of years for all OnePlus devices, it is still lower than branded flagship smartphones.

However, despite checking most of the feature boxes, OnePlus looks like yet another "ME TOO" device in the current lineup of 2018 smartphones.

  • Like every other smartphone out in the market, it offers a large screen with a notch.

  • It offers 6 GB ram but its something that even phones under Rs 20,000 now offer.

  • Its battery capacity is again lower than what most Android smartphones offer these days.

  • All phones come with fast charging today.

  • Camera, though yet to be tested, looks to be similar to last year's OnePlus 5T (similar setup) which in itself was a bit disappointing.

  • And finally, the phone still lacks proper IP rating when many phones are offering this feature. It just offers splash resistance.

  • There isn't even wireless charging.

Now, it is not to say that the device is bad. In fact, far from it. It is quite a good looking device and a very solid performer.

However, what people have come to expect from OnePlus, is missing. There is nothing that sets the phone apart.

A time ago, the price was the biggest advantage for OnePlus. But now with the price of the latest OnePlus phone almost reaching flagship levels, its a hard choice for consumers to opt for this device. Pricing will definitely be a key factor in the device's success.

Then again, OnePlus is notorious for launching a T model as successor to the original model just 4-5 months later.

Hence, its better to wait, than to buy the smartphone right now!
