Nokia 1 | Overpriced Smartphone

I sometimes really don't understand what smartphone companies actually think before launching smartphones at horrendous prices.

Do they even look at the market they are entering!

HMD Global has been trying really hard to bring back the Nokia brand by launching Android smartphones under the Nokia brand name.

However, I personally feel, its pricing has not allowed it to reap the kind of success it can.

Android Smartphone market, especially the under ₹ 20,000 price bracket, is too competitive.

There are so many smartphones available in such a vast array of configurations, it is hard to choose.

The regular consumer is already spoilt for choices. The only way to stand out is to offer more for less.

Android Smartphone Companies should definitely learn this from JioPhone!

However, Nokia phones have been offering exactly the opposite.

Take for example this Newly launched Nokia 1 in India.

NOKIA 1 Specifications

Lets first check out the specifications before talking further.

  • Operating system Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition)
  • CPU MT6737M Quad Core 1.1 GHz
  • RAM 1 GB LPPDDR 3 RAM
  • Internal memory 8 GB2 eMMC
  • MicroSD card slot Support for up to 128 GB1
  • Size and type 4.5” FWVGA IPS display, 5 fingers touch-screen
  • Primary camera 5 MP with LED flash
  • Front-facing camera 2 MP
  • Type Removable 2150 mAh battery3

As you can clearly see, the phone has very outdated specifications, even for a phone costing under ₹ 10,000/-.

It has just a 4.5-inch screen, resolution of which is laughable. 8Gb of internal storage only and just 1 GB of RAM.

A weak Mediatek processor running a lite version of Android, called ANDROID GO, completes this package.

Now, Had this phone been launched at under ₹ 3000/- one may have accepted it!
But the phone has been launched at ₹ 5499/-.

WHAT?

Yes, you heard me right!

More than 5000 rupees for this outdated device!

Nowadays there are much better looking and much more powerful devices available for under ₹ 5000/-. You can check them out here!

With such powerful and better-looking devices available, why would anyone want to buy this Nokia 1 device?

Sometimes, I just wonder...!

Do the smartphone companies even think before launching a smartphone?

What do you think about this smartphone?

Is it worth the price?
