On paper, the Redmi Note 5 pro looks to be a beast of a smartphone. It has amazing specifications and features.

READ WHY REDMI NOTE 5 MAY NOT BE THE BEST PHONE FOR YOU!

Let's check out some of the PRO'S of this device according to me

  • Great built quality at a cheap price starting at ₹13,999/-

  • Great quality 5.99 inch 18:9 LCD screen. Its one of the best in its class.

  • Supports a fast fingerprint scanner placed on the back side.

  • Dual camera setup at the back. Setup looks like the one found in an iPhone X. Camera quality seems to be much improved and better even than Xiaomi Mi A1 according to initial reviews. CHECK SOME SAMPLES HERE.

  • The front camera has an improved 20 MP sensor with selfie flash for better selfies.

  • Both front and back cameras support portrait mode. Initial impressions suggest good quality portraits.

  • Both front and back cameras support HDR which is great for high contrast situations

  • A 4000mAh battery that lasts long, really long.

  • Latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 is an amazing processor.

  • Has super fast 4GB RAM in the ₹13999/- model and also has a 6GB model for under ₹20,000/-

  • 64 GB of fast internal storage expandable up to 128 GB.

  • Face unlock feature like many expensive Smartphones

  • Scratch resistant Gorilla Glass.

  • Available in 4 awesome colors

  • Has all the basic sensors.

But the device is still not perfect.

Some CONS according to me

  • The primary back camera still has a f/2.2 aperture. This is unacceptable in today's age. It will surely affect low light camera performance. Even the front camera has only f/2.2 aperture lens.

  • Only single tone LED flash with the back camera. This is sad since even redmi Note 3 had dual tone led flash.

  • No fast charger out of the box. Device only supports quick charge 2.0

  • No Android Oreo. It currently runs Android Nougat which is very bad.

  • No USB-C port. Still uses the old micro USB port.

My Thoughts

The device is amazing for the price and for anyone wanting to buy a smartphone in this price range, it's a no-brainer decision.

However, for those who really value camera quality more, I would suggest to wait till Moto G6 series Smartphones are launched.

Moto G series is known for better camera quality.

Everyone else can go for the Redmi Note 5 pro.
